Preparing your logo for printing or embroidery: formats, colours, sizes

· by Guillaume

Good marking starts with a good file. Before ordering your personalised t-shirts, sweatshirts or polos, here are the best practices to prepare your logo, whether you choose printing or embroidery.

The right file format

  • Vector (AI, EPS, vector PDF) : the ideal format. The logo can be enlarged without quality loss, for a perfectly sharp result.
  • High-resolution PNG : acceptable if the logo is large enough and on a transparent background.
  • To avoid : a screenshot, an image taken from social media or a small JPG. The result may be blurred or pixelated.

Only have the logo from your business card or website? Don’t worry: our graphic studio can retouch or redraw it to ensure a sharp, professional print.

Colours

If your brand guide includes Pantone references, please include them in your request: they help us reproduce your colours accurately. A few points to note:

  • On dark textiles, a dark logo becomes hard to read. Provide a light (or white) version of your logo.
  • The number of colours affects the choice of technique and the price in screen printing and flex; in DTF it matters much less.
  • For embroidery, each colour corresponds to a thread: favour solid colour fills rather than gradients.

Size and placement

  • Left chest : a discreet logo, the most common format for corporate clothing.
  • Centre chest : a more prominent design.
  • Back : the largest format, ideal for a team name or a large design.
  • Sleeve : an original detail, often used as a complement.

Very fine text and small characters lose legibility, especially in embroidery. If your logo contains a small slogan, we may suggest a simplified version for small formats.

Embroidery tips: simplify without betraying the design

  • Avoid gradients and drop shadows: embroidery favours clear outlines.
  • Choose a thick textile (sweatshirt, polo shirt, softshell): a fabric that’s too thin may pucker.
  • Dare contrasts, or on the contrary go tone-on-tone for a very elegant effect.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best format to send my logo?

A vector file (AI, EPS or vector PDF). Failing that, a high-resolution PNG on a transparent background.

My logo is low resolution, what should I do?

Send it anyway: our graphic studio can rework or redraw it before marking.

Can a logo with gradients be embroidered?

Gradients must be simplified into solid colour areas. To keep gradients, l'impression DTF is more suitable.
