How it works in the workshop
Your logo
Send your file, ideally vector. We check the size and details.
The embroidery file
The logo is converted into a stitch program (“digitising”): stitch direction, density, thread colours.
The embroidery
The garment is stretched onto a hoop with a stabiliser, then the machine embroiders each colour.
Finishing and inspection
We remove the stabiliser, trim the threads and inspect each piece.
The principle in a diagram
- Needle and embroidery thread Shiny, strong polyester thread; one thread colour per logo area.
- Satin and fill stitches Stitches overlap: they give the embroidery its relief and shine.
- Fabric stretched in the hoop The garment is kept taut so the design doesn't distort.
- Stabiliser A backing placed under the fabric holds the stitches; it is cut away or torn off after embroidery.
- Bobbin thread At the back, it locks every stitch: the embroidery won't come undone in the wash.

Why choose embroidery?
Embroidery is the most durable marking technique: the design becomes part of the fabric. It withstands repeated washing, tumble drying and abrasion, where printing can sometimes wear away. That’s why you find it on uniforms, welcome polos, technician jackets and restaurant aprons.
It also conveys a perception of quality: the slight relief and thread shine give the logo a ‘finished’ look, highly appreciated for the image of a company, club or clothing brand.
Which garments to embroider?
Thicker, stable textiles give the best results:
- Polos and shirts: chest logo, on the sleeve or at the nape.
- Sweatshirts and hoodies: chest, sleeve, or a larger central embroidery.
- Softshell jackets, fleeces and down jackets : chest and back.
- Caps and beanies : front, side or back.
- Workwear and aprons.
- Embroidered linen: towels, bathrobes, throws.
On a t-shirt, a small embroidered logo on the chest is possible; for a large design, DTF printing is more suitable.
Size, placement and number of colours
| Placement | Usual size | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Chest (heart side) | 7 to 10 cm wide | The most classic placement for a company logo |
| Sleeve | 5 to 8 cm | Ideal for a second logo, a flag or a website |
| Back | up to about 25 cm | Strong visual impact, but more stitches so a higher cost |
| Cap (front) | 5 to 6 cm high | Allow a legible logo, without very fine details |
The price of an embroidery mainly depends on its number of stitches, therefore its size and density, more than the number of colours. A logo with a few colours remains perfectly affordable.
Preparing your logo for embroidery
- Avoid text smaller than 5 mm high: thread cannot reproduce letters that are too small.
- Replace gradients with solid colour blocks.
- If possible, send a vector file (AI, EPS, PDF). Our studio can otherwise retouch your logo.
All our advice in the guide preparing your logo for printing or embroidery.
Embroidery or printing?
Choose embroidery for durability and a premium look, printing for large visuals, photos and small budgets on t-shirts. Many customers combine both: logo embroidered at the front, large printed visual on the back. See our comparison embroidery, DTF, flex or screen printing.
