Custom embroidered patches

A patch is a logo embroidered on a separate backing, which is then sewn or ironed onto the garment. It lets you personalise existing items, fabrics that are hard to embroider or uniforms that need removable badges.

Jackets with patches and embroidered logos

Ideal for

  • Uniforms, scouts, youth movements and clubs
  • Jackets, bags and caps that are difficult to embroider directly
  • Clothing brands and capsule collections
  • Interchangeable function or rank badges

Less suitable for

  • Very fine logos or tiny text
  • Very lightweight textiles where a thick patch would distort the fabric

How it works in the workshop

  1. The shape

    We define the size, shape and edging of the patch.

  2. The embroidery

    The logo is embroidered onto a stable backing.

  3. The cut and the edge

    The patch is cut and its edge finished.

  4. The application

    Sewn, iron-on, or applied by us to your garments.

The principle in a diagram

1234
  1. Embroidery on backing The logo is embroidered on a stable fabric (twill or felt), several patches at once.
  2. Cutting and edging Each patch is cut to shape; the edge is overlocked or heat‑cut.
  3. The backing To sew on, iron‑on or with hook-and-loop (velcro): chosen according to the intended use.
  4. Application Sewn or ironed onto the jacket, bag or cap, by you or in the workshop.

Patch or direct embroidery?

Direct embroidery is done on the garment. The patch, by contrast, is embroidered separately. It is preferable when:

  • the garment is already purchased or supplied by your members;
  • the material or shape makes direct embroidery difficult (padded jackets, bags, stiff caps);
  • the badge needs to be removable or replaceable (role, rank, season);
  • you want a deliberate “patch” look, very on-trend on jackets and caps.

To sew or iron-on?

The patch to sew on is the most durable, ideal for uniforms worn and washed often. The iron-on is applied with an iron or a press, practical for youth movements and small runs. For heavy use, we recommend also sewing an iron-on patch.

Who is it for?

Scouts, guides and patrols (see personalised textiles for scouts), sports clubs, companies, fire brigades and security services, clothing brands and designers.

A patch is attached to an existing garment and can be moved or replaced. Direct embroidery is done on the garment itself and cannot be removed.

We offer sew-on or iron-on patches, depending on the intended use and the fabric.

Common sizes range from about 5 to 10 cm. We advise you based on the placement and logo legibility.
