Embroidered beanie: preparing your logo

· by Guillaume

Embroidered beanie next to handwritten note

Embroidery is the usual choice for beanies. This guide explains what we check, how we prepare your logo and when to use DTF.

Why embroidery on a beanie needs care

The embroidery area on a beanie is small and often knitted. Our first move when a client asks for a logo is to check if it can be embroidered: we look at logo height, legibility and letter height first.

“I check the logo if it can be embroidered knowing the embroidery area is small on a beanie”
Guillaume's advice

If the logo includes a sub-line or slogan we usually remove it to keep only the main mark for clarity.

Real workshop example

Once the spacing between letters was too tight and the result would be unreadable. We converted the logo to stitch points in our software, spaced the letters and slightly increased size to fix it, then tested on a knit sample.

Checks before embroidering

  • Minimum letter height and contrast.
  • Avoid very thin strokes on knit fabrics.
  • Complex details often lose definition.
  • Thread tension and backing reinforcement.

We check thread tension and apply Vliesline backing to prevent the knit from distorting; it can be torn away after embroidery if needed.

When to choose DTF instead

We favour embroidery for most beanies. DTF or screen-print transfers are possible only when the beanie has a patch zone designed for printing. If the logo has colour gradients and many small details and the client refuses changes, we suggest a printed patch to use DTF.

Files and retouches

We often remove sub-lines and discuss which graphic parts to keep or merge to stay readable. We digitise the logo into stitches with our software, adjust spacing and test on a sample before full production.
